Caribbean Black

My husband and I have been travelling to Cozumel for years and never took the kids because we wanted them to be old enough to enjoy and remember the trip before we spent such a large amount of money. However, we shared every detail with them, building up the magical paradise that they could only envision in their dreams.

After years of growing children and saving money, the time had arrived for us to take them to the island for three weeks. They could hardly believe that they were finally going to experience the fantasy tales of never-ending sunshine, water so blue and clear that you could see to the bottom, and sea life of every kind. Their dreams of all-inclusive play, food, fun, and no early bedtimes or chores were finally going to come true!

We arrived on the island and although the sky was dark, which made the turquoise water we had bragged about look gray, we reassured them that the water and the chilly temperature would blow away as fast as it arrived, for storms in the Caribbean usually don’t last very long.

Unloading eight bottles of sunscreen, my son glanced outside and said, “Guess we won’t be needing these today.” He set them on the dresser as the wind and rain slapped heavily against the glass doors. The weather was so severe by now that we were not able to see a thing outside our doors and windows. “Just a sudden tropical storm,” I reassured them once again.

Seasick travelers walked by announcing stories of the twenty-foot swells they had just endured coming off the ferry. I overheard that it took them two hours to make the trip, which should have been a lot shorter. We snuggled deeper into our sweats and wished that we had brought warmer clothing but while packing in Missouri, sweats just seemed too hot at the time. My family and I headed toward the dining room for there was nothing else to do but eat on this paradise isle. This was similar to our winter lives in Missouri.

The Hottest Place on Earth to Visit

death-valley-crater.jpg

Death Valley National Park in California (United States) is one of the hottest places on our planet Earth. With a record-breaking high temperature of 134 degrees farenheit (in 1913), Death Valley holds the second highest temperature ever recorded. The deaths of those who tried to cross the valley on their quest to find gold during the California gold rush in 1849 gave the location its name. The park covers more than 3.3 million acres of desert adventure and dips to 282 feet below sea level, which is the lowest point in the western hemisphere, and also rises to mountains as high as 11,000 feet. Rare desert plants and wildlife, spectacular geological formations, and untouched historical wilderness are there for those who crave the ultimate desert adventure, which is the lowest point in the western hemisphere, and also rises to mountains as high as 11,000 feet. Volunteer for an Adventure Travel

volunteer_india.jpg

More travelers are looking to combine volunteerism with adventure travel for a more meaningful experience. This can be a win-win situation for all. According to a survey by “The Voice of Travel Survey” as posted by the Travel Wire Industry 47% of participants (ages 35-47) were interested in taking a vacation that allows them to volunteer. Can you imagine the difference between a holiday spent on the beach or sunning by the pool versus learning how to carve a canoe with the natives as you work with local children to learn the ancient skill? You’re also gaining invaluable experience while making a difference in your destination. Not only is beneficial to those who volunteer and those who receive the services, it’s also a great way to experience travel and adventure without spending lots of money.

Adventure travel that is fulfilling, where the positive impact is not placed only on the traveler but also on the people and places being visited, can lead to even more challenges and fulfillment. Embark on journeys that give greater freedom to mind, body, and spirit such as ringing birds on the Greek island of Antikythira. If that’s not your forte then how about

Madagascar
Where: In the Indian Ocean, floating in the southeastern coast of Africa.
The Talk: Malagasy (a language belonging to the group of Malayo-Polynesian languages)
Size:3,000 miles of coastline on the world’s fourth largest island (about double the size of Arizona)
Population: 19,448,815
The Story: Also known as the “Great Red Island” due to all the iron and aluminum in the soils. The island has three different climates: tropical on the coast, temperate inland, and dry in the south. Madagascar is also considered as being a “world apart” due to the animal and plant species (including ones that are not found in the mainland Africa). But great news! The venomous snakes that are a big part of Africa do not exist on the island!
The Adventure: The Madagascar adventure experience includes visiting where pirates once ruled, exploring volcanic lakes and checking out jewels like the pirates did. See the lemurs, archaelogical relics, funeral sanctuaries, Mahafaly’s tomb, and amazing FIRE-RESISTANT Baobab trees.

Xinjiang, China’s Glacier Hikes: Get ‘em while they’re hot…ummm…err…cold!

china-glacier-ii-1.jpg

There are over 46,000 glaciers in China which cover 60,000 kilometers. These glaciers are mainly located in Xinjiang and Tibet. Sadly, they have shrunk about 200 feet for nearly forty years now. The Chinese Academy of Sciences reports that the average internal temperature of Xinjiang, China’s glaciers is ten percent higher. Global warming (the waste product of human activity such as air pollution and carbon dioxide) is believed to be the cause. If this continues, the Xinjiang region can be devastatingly affected. The northern area of this region consist of semi-continental glaciers and extreme continental glaciers lie in the southern glacier system. Shrinking glaciers can cause extreme runoffs which can cause flooding in to low-lying areas and drought to locations that are arid. Eventually the high country’s tundra will turn to desert which will cause other problems such as sandstorms and less grassland for raising livestock and for wildlife.

However, the effects of global warming will take many years and the glaciers are still here for some fantasic hikes where you can see amazing wildlife such as leopards
