Adventure Travel Planning: Mexico / Central America, Part 2

Join in on the fun and anticipation as I plan my next adventure trip: It’s a belated honeymoon of sorts to Mexico’s Yucatan and Central America for my wife and I covering about four weeks. I first posted on this in the early planning stages right after Christmas. But now the trip is less than a month away, and it’s getting down to crunch time in terms of planning.

Shortly after that first post, we set out some definite plans, and here they are:

Travel Dates: Feb. 7 - Feb. 13: Week with family in Florida, possible trip to Key West
Feb. 13: Arrive in Cancun around noon.
Feb. 17: Check in for “Official Honeymoon Week” at a resort in Antigua, Guatemala.
Feb. 24: Check out and resume exploring Central America
Mar. 13: Leave Cancun, back to Ft. Lauderdale.

And that’s all we have planned so far for sure. The week in Antigua is a wedding gift from my parents at a resort that we would never pay for on our own, the rest of the time, we’re backpacking it. We’re open to suggestions, but we know we want to visit some Mayan ruins, some beach time, and I’m pretty keen on checking out El Salvador. Chiapas was in the picture for a while, but I think that will probably prove to be too far. Any ideas? Join in and help plan our open-source honeymoon adventure! More to follow soon…
